As administrators, you play a critical role in creating a culture of donation in your hospital. Compliance with donation and transplantation regulations, policy and protocol development and leading initiatives to support donation are key elements of a successful hospital donation program.
The Joint Commission has identified the 10 Cs of Donation Success for Hospital Administrators
Let us know how we can support you in fulfilling these goals.
The Joint Commission/CMS/Department of Health Surveys
OPOs and hospital administrators across the nation who have been surveyed report an increased emphasis on donation-related standards. LifeSource is committed to assisting you in every way possible and encourage you to complete the Compliance Guide as one means of survey preparation.
The Compliance Guide is a compilation of CMS and JCAHO standards and interpretive guidelines related to organ, tissue and eye donation. It is intended to serve as a self-assessment checklist as you prepare for JCAHO, CMS or Department of Health surveys. This guide will also be helpful as you continue to monitor donation-related measures and outcomes on an ongoing basis.
HIPAA Exemption
Because the donation and transplantation process requires donation agencies to review confidential patient information or “protected health information”, we are often asked by donor hospitals, “What about HIPAA?” The answer to that question is, quite simply, that LifeSource is exempt. Please review the LifeSource HIPAA Exemption for a summary of the HIPAA regulations adressing organ and tissue procurement.
Please contact your LifeSource hospital liaison at 1.888.5.DONATE with questions or for further assistance.
If you haven’t registered as a donor, your family will be asked to make a decision for you.
