Writing to your donor’s family

Some transplant recipients choose to write to their donor’s family to thank them for their gift of life and to share information about themselves and how their transplant has changed their life.  The decision to write is a deeply personal one.

We encourage transplant recipients to write to their donor’s family if and when it feels right to them.  If you choose to write a letter, please send it to your transplant center who will forward it to one of our donor family advocates.  Our donor family advocate will review your letter to ensure confidentiality and then forward it on to your donor’s family.  Please feel free to send a greeting card, a letter or photos.

The brochure Writing to Donor Families (PDF) offers more information and guidance to help you write this deeply personal letter.  If you would like further assistance or have questions, please feel free to contact one of our donor family advocates, Jill Halimi or Sally Nelson.
