National Donor Sabbath

Faith communities across the nation will come together the weekend of November 9-11, 2012 to share the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. Named National Donor Sabbath, this weekend offers you the perfect opportunity to share with others how donation has touched your life and to encourage them to register and to tell their families about their decision.

All major religions in the United States support organ and tissue donation. Here are some reasons to share this life-saving message with your place of worship:

  • More than 113,000 Americans are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, including more than 3,200 in the Upper Midwest.
  • 18 men, women, and children die each day in the U.S. because the organ they needed was not available.
  • A single donor can save and heal the lives of 60 people.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services created a downloadable guide for faith leaders called “Sharing the Gift of Life: A Resource Guide for Faith Leaders on Organ and Tissue Donation and National Donor Sabbath.”  Please feel free to share this guide with your faith leader.

In addition, LifeSource can provide you with free resources to help guide you and your congregation on making the decision to become an organ and tissue donor. Click here to see what we have available and for information on ordering.
