Cary began his work with non-profit donation agencies in 1991 when he was hired as recruitment director for the Sioux Falls Regional Blood Bank. He eventually was named Executive Director and oversaw the operation of two bloodmobiles and two donor rooms in two separate hospitals. While at the blood bank Cary received a national award for donor recruitment from the Baxter Foundation and was a speaker at the Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals national convention. Cary has served on the board of the Minn-Ia-Kota Girl Scouts and the Children’s Miracle Network chapter in Sioux Falls, SD.
Cary received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, and his Master’s degree in Health Services from the University of South Dakota.
Cary enjoys working with people who believe they can help others through the gifts of donation, whether it is blood, organs, tissue, or eyes. “I have met so many amazing individuals and families who want to help others. With organ tissue and eye donation it is always in the midst of grief that they think of others and give the gifts that make such a difference in so many people’s lives.”
Cary enjoys giving public presentations about his work in organ, tissue, and eye donation, offering his time at churches, service clubs, schools and universities. His favorite pastime is listening to music of all kinds, and going to concerts ranging from rock to the symphony. He is founder and past president of the Sioux Falls Sherlock Holmes society, and was a TV host of the Children’s Miracle Network telethon in Sioux Falls for ten years. Cary loves to spend time with his wife Cathy, two daughters, Stephanie and Mallory, and their house cat Lucy.
