LifeSource Announces New CEO, Lisa Stocks

San Diego OPO Executive Director will Succeed Founder Susan Gunderson

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – LifeSource, the organ procurement organization (OPO) for the Upper Midwest, announced today that Lisa Stocks will succeed Susan Gunderson as the second Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the non-profit’s 32-year history.

“Lisa is well-positioned to continue the great work LifeSource has accomplished over the past 32 years,” said Gunderson, who, in May 2021, announced her upcoming retirement. “She brings great passion and expertise to lead the organization into the future.”

Stocks will join LifeSource in January after having served as Executive Director of Lifesharing, the OPO based in San Diego, CA, since 2003. Stocks has deep roots in the donation and transplantation community beginning her career as a donation coordinator. She currently serves on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) Board of Directors and has served as chair of the UNOS Membership and Professional Standards Committee. Stocks is also incoming president of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), a position she will assume in June of 2022.

“After reviewing over 100 strong candidates, Lisa kept rising to the top,” said Tim Bjork, LifeSource Board Chair and heart recipient. “What stood out to me was her focus on innovation, her national connections and her successful track record of making strategic improvements at her last OPO. No one can replace Susan Gunderson, but she’s the right person to succeed Susan in achieving the big goals we’ve set as an organization.”

“I am excited to join a strong team with deep roots in the community,” said Stocks. “Following a leader like Susan Gunderson is a great honor.”

Stocks has spent the entirety of her career in Southern California and Arizona, so her only concern about the move? Driving in the snow.

The LifeSource team is thrilled to welcome Lisa Stocks as the new CEO in January 2022.
