Sharing your story

Many of our Donate Life Ambassadors choose to share their story with their community, and we are grateful for their willingness to talk about their journey and how donation and transplantation has impacted their life.

Whether you are a donor family member, transplant recipient, recipient family member, transplant candidate or had a loved one die while waiting for a transplant, each story is a powerful testament to the gift of donation and the need for more people to register as donors. When you share your story with the people in your community you have the opportunity to change hearts and minds. Many people don’t think about organ and tissue donation until they know someone who has personally been affected.

You don’t have to be a professional speaker – all we ask is that you speak from your heart. And, of course, we’ll be here to guide you in shaping your story so that it feels comfortable to you and to your audience.

If you aren’t comfortable speaking in public, you can also share your story through social media, writing a letter to the editor of your local paper or by talking with your legislators about how important donation is to you. Please refer to the Telling Your Story guide or contact Teresa Turner for more information or for help shaping your story.
