Meet Melinda and Kelley
Funeral homes are a vital link in the organ and tissue donation process in our community. We understand the impact organ and tissue donation has on you and your work. LifeSource team member Melinda DeVries offers dedicated service to funeral directors, providing personal follow up after every donation.
An experienced funeral director herself, she has a deep understanding of both the work you do and expertise in organ and tissue donation. Melinda received her Mortuary Science degree from the University of Minnesota. Following graduation, Melinda worked at Benson Funeral Home for three years before transitioning to her role at LifeSource as a Funeral Director Liaison in 2005.
Melinda continues to provide part-time service to local funeral homes and is an active member of the Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota Funeral Director Associations; the Arrowhead Funeral Directors Association; and is a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist.
For several years, Melinda also held a second position at LifeSource as a Tissue Surgical Recovery Technician, recovering tissue from donors who have so generously given the gift of life. She is active on several committees within the organization to help drive opportunities for improvement with the goal of improved performance, enhanced customer and partner relationships, and meeting the needs of those we serve.
The most recent addition to our partner team, Kelley brings a new perspective of the partnership that Funeral Home/ME/Coroner partners have to organ, tissue and eye donation.
For nearly six years, she worked in the Donor Services Center and provided a unique opportunity to offer hope and healing to donor families through the gifts of tissue and eye donation. Kelley also worked with our local transplant centers to facilitate donor organ transportation for the recipients awaiting a new lease on life. Prior to her role at LifeSource, she worked as a funeral director for eleven years, caring for families and their loved ones, many of whom honored their legacies through their generous gifts of life.
Following an Associates of Art degree, Kelley continued on to attain her Bachelors of Science in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota in 2001. She continues her pursuit of knowledge and in the fall of 2016 became a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist through AATB.
Medical Examiner/Coroner and Funeral home partners are pivotal through the donation process. Due to her years in the Donor Services department and as a funeral director, she appreciates and places great value in the work you perform and care you provide to the families you serve. Kelley looks forward to advocating with our partners and welcomes the opportunity for improved processes to support those organizations we partner with.
