Kourtney’s Story

Former LifeSource team member, Kourtney, shares with us how working with donor families has impacted her life.

My name is Kourtney and I’m a LifeSource Donation Coordinator. I help families at the time of their loved ones death by presenting them with the opportunity for their loved one to donate their organs, tissues and eyes. I love being able to help families through a time of illness, a time of pain, and making people comfortable, making them smile and laugh.  Humor kind of helps when you’re feeling pretty crummy.

“There are a lot of things that inspired me to work at LifeSource. Meeting a grieving family that has gone through this tragic loss and seeing them be so selfless, gracious and generous in a time that is so horrific. It always humbles me.”

It’s at two o’clock in the morning, three o’clock in the morning, when I’ve been working 24 hours and I just feel like I don’t know if I can go on, I don’t know if I can do this anymore. This is just so difficult, so stressful. I think about that patient that’s laying in the bed that has lost their life and their family who wants to donate these gifts of life, passed on to others so that they can go on with the spirit of their loved one. And I think about these recipients that are going to be able to take a breath and be renewed or refreshed the next day after they get these gifts of life and their families who have been waiting and hoping for a miracle for anywhere from days to months on a waiting list. I think about all of these people and I just think OK I need to fight harder. It’s definitely the families that Keep me going through it all. My name is Kourtney and I am hope.
